Developing a winning strategy for business engagement activities has always been a strong point of mine. I am not afraid to tackle things with a determined yet professional approach and I have to date met with very successful outcomes.
I have the drive and ambition to assist anyone in achieving the best possible outcomes from their projects and work hard to ensure these are delivered in the manner expected. I possess natural networking and communication skills and use these to the best advantage. My skills set will add real value to any organisation with the vision to enlist my help. I am of smart appearance, professional and used to working in confidential environments.
I have wide experience of Business Development and Enterprise, which has taught me key skills such as budget planning, project management, and how to develop strong and effective working relationships that have resulted in important contacts in both the academic and industrial fields.
My current position requires me to seek out collaborative prospects and to develop and nurture these relationships within either academic or industrial environments. I have extensive experience in working with confidential material and Tendering processes, having many examples of successful tenders and relationship building at a national level. I have additional understanding in areas of Local Development Agencies, for example AWM & ERDF, the major Government funding bodies such as EPSRC, BBSRC, MRC, the main charities such as the Royal Society, and Wellcome Trust, and international funding from the EU (Framework 7) and have used this knowledge to advise and aid customers in choosing the most suitable route for their funding application in TSB with funding bodies

Company: Bruker BioSpin Ltd - EPR
Key clients: UK HEI's, Cadbury's, Unilever, ADM, United Biscuits

BrukerBioSpin Ltd knew there was a larger EPR (Electron Paramagnetic Spectroscopy) market in the UK, they just didn't know how big or how to secure it. They formed a new post within the company based in Coventry and I was successful in my application for the post.
From the beginning it was apparent that the post holder would have to design their own marketing and sales strategy and things were very much left to me to decide how best to approach this situation.
Thankfully my strategy of visiting all the existing customers as the first step produced the desired outcome - which was meeting the customers face to face and establishing good relationships, in the process I raised the company profile and began to win over the confidence of these customers.
I then set about the task of identifying and targeting new customers, offering them support and advice where needed, putting them in touch with existing users and our state of the art R & D facilities in Germany.

Role: Business Engagement Manager, Warwick University, Research Support Services
Key clients: STL, Veolia, Forensic Science Industry, Hospital Trusts - UHT-Walsgrave

I successfully transferred from the commercial sector into the Higher Education sector, initially as the Interim Business Engagement Manager on the Birmingham Science City, Advanced materials 2 (AM2) Project at Warwick University and then as a more general business development manager across the university. In this role as the interface between industry and academia I developed a good understanding of how HEI's operate and their business engagement strategy. I also gained valuable insight into the work load of many of the academics and developed the skills needed to engage with them and the external partners.
Whilst in the post as the Business Engagement Manager, AM2, I engaged with 32 SME's. I understood the difficulties and limitations small businesses face, their vulnerability when relying on a single key customer and the restrictions a small work force imposes on them in terms of business engagement activities and availability to attend external events aimed at improving their awareness and their market share.

Using my natural ability to engage with others I have begun to facilitate at high level meetings. These meetings have arisen from a direct need in industry for technological solutions that were matched with the research expertise at Warwick University. I have identified areas both internally and externally would benefit from coming together and discussing particular challenges and through facilitating these meetings the technological challenges can be addressed, industry drivers identified and understood and mutually beneficial outcomes are experienced by all.
My client management skills are also brought to the fore in ensuring these new relationships are encouraged and allowed to flourish in a supportive environment. Being on-hand throughout the process is essential to ensure positive experiences are enjoyed by all.
Impartiality is essential to this role as is the need to address the remit and deliver the outcomes in a timely and satisfactory manner.
